Walter-Michael Vollhardt born in Heidelberg, Germany, studied with Paul Tortelier in Essen, David Geringas in Hamburg and Leslie Parnas at Boston University (Master of Music degree).
He did his debut with the Boston Symphony Orchestra and performed with the Berlin Radio Orchestra, National Orchestra of Brazil, Czech State Philharmonic, Rumanian National Orchestra, Thailand Philharmonic Orchestra and others.
Since he started teaching at the Hamburg Conservatory and played as Principal Cellist of the Freiburg Philharmonic he gives masterclasses in Positano (Italy), Los Angeles (USA), Rio de Janeiro Cello Festival, São Paulo, Brasília, Porto Alegre, Belém, Fortaleza, Recife, João Pessoa (Brasilien), San Jose (Costa Rica), Santo Domingo (Dominican Republic), Havana (Cuba), Kingston (Jamaica), Panama City (Panama), Penang (Malaysia), Windhoek (Namibia), Lagos (Nigéria)
He also enjoys doing Improvisation with percussion, dancers and actors.
As a conductor he has worked with many orchestras in Europe, South America,
India and Africa.
Recitals brought him to Brazil, Canada, China, Costa Rica, Cuba, Dominican Republic, Great Britain, German, Hungary, Italy, Jamaica, Malaysia, Nigeria, Panama, Sweden, Switzerland, Turkey and the USA.
