Ted Lane (clarinet)
Ted Lane received a Naumburg Scholarship to study at the prestigious Juilliard school where he received his Bachelor, Master and Doctor of Music degrees. His major teacher was Stanley Drucker, legendary clarinetist of over 60 years with the New York Philharmonic. Mr. Lane has also studied with former Principal Clarinetist of the Chicago Symphony, Larry Combs and former Principal Clarinetist of the Berlin Philharmonic, Karl Leister. In Denver, Colorado he was awarded “First Prize” of the International Clarinet Associations “International Clarinet Competition.”
Mr. Lane has performed with numerous orchestras throughout the United States notably the New York Philharmonic, American Sinfonietta, North Carolina Symphony, Sacramento Symphony, Charleston Symphony to name a few. He has given master classes, appeared as soloist and, has taught in many highly acclaimed music festivals throughout Europe and in North America such as; the Monterrey Music Festival in Mexico, Monterrey Music Festival in California, Bellingham Music Festival, Bear Valley Music Festival, Interlochen-National Music Camp, La Biennale of Venice, Italy, and the Spoleto Festival in Spoleto, Italy. As an orchestral musician he has performed with some of the greatest musician/conductors the world has known: Leonard Bernstein, Aaron Copland, Pierre Boulez, Zubin Mehta, Claudio Abbado, Vladimir Ashkenazy, Daniel Barenboim, Myung-Whun Chung, Herbert von Karajan, Rafael Kubelik, Erich Leinsdorf, Sixten Ehrling, Lorin Maazel, Seiji Ozawa, Andre Previn, Mstislav Rostropovich, Thomas Schippers, Giuseppe Sinopoli, Christopher Keene, Christian Badea, Michael Palmer, and Emmanuel Siffert to name a few.
His passion for chamber music began early in his career. He Co-Founded the American Woodwind Quintet and the National Woodwind Quintet at the Juilliard School. While serving as Principal Clarinetist of the Charleston Symphony and Spoleto Festival-Charleston he founded the “Charleston Chamber Players” in South Carolina and, “Kansa” in South Texas. This fall Mr. Lane introduced a chamber music program in Quito, Ecuador with the National Symphony of Ecuador where he produced a compact disk documenting the first series of chamber music performances.
Ted Lane is presently Principal Clarinetist and soloist with the “Orquesta Sinfónica Nacional del Ecuador.” There he also serves as “Professor in Residence.”
